Approach

It is an honour to hear your story. I have profound respect for individuals who decide to try out therapy. It takes courage when an individual decides to seek help, whether independently or prompted by someone else. Good for you for considering therapy!

My philosophy is that no person lacks inherent value and every person has a purpose. My goal as a counsellor is to help you discover these things. With that being said, what holds you back? Where do you see yourself? Let’s journey together and build an alliance that empowers you. I’m ready to start wherever you are!

While my therapeutic experience is not limited to the following, I specialize in three areas:

  • Men’s mental health

  • Neurodivergent individuals (including autism, ADHD and other neurodevelopmental conditions)

  • Youth (ages 9 through young adulthood)

My specializations come from various experiences, both professionally and personally. I have lived out many struggles common to men, and through my experiences, I have gravitated toward helping men in particular. Regarding my qualifications for neurodivergent individuals and youth, I have been a School Teacher for 10 years, working with students who have complex behavioral, emotional and learning needs.

A little about me

Despite professional successes, in earlier years of life I was well-acquainted with suffering, isolation, and a sense of helplessness. Interestingly, these times became some of the most formative aspects of my story, further reinforcing my current values and hope for humanity.

As a young person, I struggled with a sense of self-worth, often falling back on unsustainable coping mechanisms and addiction to get by. My purpose and career direction were undefined. I worked for years in the demanding conditions of Fort McMurray, Alberta. This produced in me a level of mental resilience that helps me survive today and relate to individuals from different professional backgrounds.

After hitting rock bottom, I realized the unsustainable nature of my life and returned to my faith. This helped me commit to and complete several years of post-secondary education. Years later, I am married and recently had two beautiful daughters. In spite of everyday challenges that require all my energy, I am now living the most enjoyable life I have ever had!

These ups and downs, moments of humility, have given me a deeper reverence for the details of each person’s story, no matter how hopeless one might feel. On a lighter note, in my spare time, I enjoy fishing, getting a coffee with a friend at Tim Hortons, and spending time with my wife and kids.

I look forward to working with you.
