Children’s Counselling in Abbotsford & Online Across BC

Children make sense of their world through play, creativity, and connection — not always through words.

At RenHaven, we create a space where your child can express feelings, build emotional awareness, and develop tools for resilience. Through play and art therapy, we help children feel safe, understood, and supported as they navigate life’s challenges.

A Safe Space for Children to Explore, Express, and Grow

Our child therapy sessions are designed for children who are struggling to express emotions or adjust to changes at home, school, or in relationships.

  • Counselling can be especially helpful for children who are experiencing:

  • Grief (anticipatory or bereavement)

  • Anxiety, worries, or difficulty managing emotions

  • Behavioural changes or withdrawal

  • Family transitions such as divorce, death loss or pet loss

  • Bullying or social challenges

  • Perfectionism or self-criticism

  • Challenges with confidence or self-esteem

We meet each child where they are, at their developmental stage, helping them build emotional language, confidence, and a sense of safety in themselves and their environment.

A Creative, Play-Based Approach to Healing

RenHaven’s approach to working with children is experiential, creative, and relational.

Our therapists use Play Therapy and Art Therapy techniques to help children explore their inner world through imagination, storytelling, and creative expression. These methods allow children to process experiences in ways that feel natural and non-threatening, helping them communicate feelings that may be difficult to put into words.

We also support caregivers with insight and tools to continue the work at home, fostering connection and understanding beyond the therapy room.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • You don’t need to wait for a crisis to reach out. If your child seems withdrawn, overwhelmed, or is showing signs of stress or big emotions, therapy can help them express what’s happening inside and learn new ways to cope.

  • Children often need to enact what they witnessed or express their feelings through their imaginal play in order to make sense of their world. Play Therapy uses toys, art, and creative materials as tools for communication. It helps children process emotions, develop problem-solving skills, and build confidence and mastery in a developmentally appropriate way.

  • The younger the children are, the closer we will be working with parents/caregivers. We believe in attachment based, family-centred approach. You are an integral part of the process to create and foster positive change for children. This means that sometimes we may invite you to for an individual parent-session or parent-child session.

  • If your child gets sick and unable to attend the session, that might be a good opportunity to switch to an online check-in with the parent. Children need concrete, tactile means to engage with creative materials and move through their emotions, so online sessions are not our preferred method.

  • Each child is unique. Some may need short-term support, while others benefit from ongoing sessions to maintain progress. We’ll collaborate with you to find what feels right.
